Frequently Asked Questions
Why do I need side bolts in addition to short pins?
Short pins connect pontoons vertically at corner junctions, while side bolts provide lateral (horizontal) connection between adjacent pontoon rows. Without side bolts, individual pontoons can move independently under wave loading, creating wear on the pin connections and reducing overall platform rigidity. Side bolts create a unified structural platform that moves as one piece.
How many side bolts per pontoon?
Approximately 0.6 side bolts per pontoon. Each side bolt connects two adjacent pontoons horizontally. The Buoyancy Calculator on our website automatically computes the required quantity based on your platform configuration.
